ABOUT

While several Churches are dedicated to the Mother of God, the Ever-Blessed Virgin Mary, and are, therefore, named “Assumption,” the Assumption Greek Orthodox Church of Chicago is uniquely known throughout the Chicagoland area as “Panagia.”

Panagia has had a celebrated history over the past 95 years. Her children have been instrumental in establishing other communities throughout the area. Additionally, Panagia has given more young men to the Holy Priesthood than any other Church in America, thus the title “Mother Church.”

Moreover, these 95 years have been marked by a constant harvest of spiritual fruit from the countless efforts of devoted stewards of the Lord’s household. We are deeply thankful to all who have committed themselves to the life and welfare of the parish and, in particular, for the dynamic ministry of all the venerable spiritual fathers of the community, especially our new Proestamenos, Rev. Dr. Peter J. Spiro, .

As we celebrate this anniversary of our beloved parish dedicated to Panagia, we are honoring how “We’ve Come This Far Through Faith.”

It is with this spirit, that the Assumption Greek Orthodox Church of Chicago cordially requests your presence for the occasion of our 95th Anniversary Gala. To be held on Sunday, Oct. 11, 2020 at the Concorde Banquets in Kildeer, Illinois, we have planned an evening filled with food, music and fellowship as we commemorate how we’ve grown, and will continue to grow, as one Christian family.

We hope you can join us as we honor this noteworthy anniversary of our life as an ecclesial community.
